Technology training is only part of the journey. To truly prepare young people for the workplace, we’ve paired digital and vocational skills with career readiness workshops—a critical component often overlooked in traditional training programmes.
These workshops are designed to support youth in peri-urban and rural areas like Komati, where access to further education is limited. Hosted at the Eskom Komati Training Centre, they cover Telephone Etiquette: Professional phone communication, including tone, clarity, and how to answer calls appropriately. Optimized CV Writing: Techniques for creating CVs that are ATS-friendly and tailored to specific roles. Application Letter Writing: Crafting compelling motivation letters that highlight strengths and align with job requirements. Interview Preparation: Building confidence through mock interviews and online career portal profile optimization.
Why These Workshops Matter
Many candidates possess the technical skills needed for employment but fall short in how they present themselves professionally. For example, it’s common to receive job applications via email with no subject line or cover letter—especially when sent to general mailboxes like [email protected], which may be handling multiple opportunities at once (e.g., training applications, internship submissions, general inquiries). Without clear identification, a candidate’s email risks being overlooked or lost in the shuffle.
Similarly, how one answers the phone can make or break a first impression. A casual or unclear response may raise doubts about a candidate’s readiness for professional environments. These are small but impactful habits that can be corrected early through structured coaching.
By embedding soft skills into our career development model, we ensure that candidates are not only technically equipped but also professionally prepared to navigate the job market with confidence and clarity.
